Claudia’s story
I came to know Hope through a mother at school. One day I was telling her how much I hate school runs and how hard was it for me to leave the house for it. She told me “ You need a Sparkle in your life” so she invited me to attend a Sparkle Group meeting.

It wasn’t easy to go at first. But the groups are small, a fact that helped me a lot at the time.
Since then I have done therapy and gone onto medication which, together with support from my Sparkle group, has meant that gradually my social anxiety has diminished. At least now it doesn’t stop me as much from doing things anymore.
I still do not find socialising easy but I love my little Sparkle group, it’s the day of the week I see people just as me, Claudia. Not Mum.
At the time I met Jodie who invited me to the group I had just moved to Burgess Hill. I knew no one in town and Sparkle gave me opportunity to meet local girls. I feel a lot more settle and part of the community. It’s a good feeling to drive around and know someone who lives on that street, or attends that school etc. Our Sparkle Group is fun and pressure free. I know I won’t be judged and whenever I’ve needed some help the girls have been very supportive. Honestly I am so grateful for this group. Life would have been much harder without it. I was severely depressed. I probably would have been extremely alone. The girls from Sparkle probably don’t know but my life is better just for knowing they are there 🙂
