Chance to Chat Volunteer
An ideal person for the role would have:
- A non-judgemental, encouraging nature
- Ability to listen
- Experience in teaching or facilitating groups
- A value in the importance of family life
- An enjoyment in communicating with adults
- Experience as a parent
- To be available (if applicable) without your own children
- Experience in the field of child development in some form (not essential)
- An affinity to the school environment (not essential)
What you would be doing:
- Leading informal group parenting conversations in preschools, primary schools and our own Sparkle and Space For Dads groups
Amount of time required
- Each conversation lasts between 1 to 1.5 hours
- Preparation takes up to 1 hour per session
- The demand fluctuates and any timetable can be worked around your availability
Support offered to you:
- Initial 6 sessions of training with other Hope volunteers
- Training with other Chance to Chat volunteers in how to use the resource notes
- Support in your first few conversations as required
- Plans and resources needed for each conversation
- Ongoing contact with a Hope leader to ask any questions or individual advice
- Occasional ongoing training, offering discussion around areas of conversations and contact with other Chance to Chat volunteers

Other relevant information:
- We don’t advocate any one parenting method, but do emphasise the value of a strong connection between parents and their children
- Our conversations are very flexible to allow parents time to talk and share their thoughts, experiences and situations.
